Surrender and Release: Anusara Yoga Heart opening and Back Bending with Nicole Roerick, 2nd Feb Friday, 11:00AM- 1:00AM

This special Anusara Yoga Heart opening and back bending workshop will focus on different ways to explore opening the chest, shoulders, hips, thighs, and more. We will work towards intermediate and advanced variations of heart and hip openers in a safe and aligned way using the techniques and alignment from Anusara Yoga.

We will look at each pose from the inside out and work from the principles of alignment to better serve our practice. We will work with the 3 A’s of Anusara Yoga: Attitude, Alignment, and Action. This series will also work on a mental and emotional level by tapping into these vulnerable areas of the body. Strong backbends can sometimes release stored emotions such as frustration, fear, anger, sadness, as well as joy and love. We will begin each practice by setting an intention to surrender and be open to transformation within ourselves and an invocation. We will find the goodness within ourselves and within each posture, we come to. This series is open to all levels and will be beneficial for everyone!

We will work towards variations of Urdhva Dhanurasana (Full Wheel), Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (King Pigeon), Ustrasana (Camel), Natarajasana (Dancer’s pose), and more!

About the teacher:
Nicole Roerick, originally from the United States, relocated to Cairo, Egypt from Brooklyn, NY in July 2014. She is a passionate teacher and yogini. She found Yoga through Dance and has benefitted from it in more ways than she thought possible. She has been practicing since 2007 and has really deepened her practice since her 200-hour certification in NYC in 2010 (Vinyasa). She also completed 200 hours towards her advanced certification in Thailand in November 2016 through the Shantaya Yoga School (Anusara). She has studied Hatha, Vinyasa and Yin styles, and has also worked with Anusara and Iyengar teachers. The diversity comes through in her teaching. Nicole focuses on working towards proper alignment and muscle usage in the body while also focusing on individual needs and adjustments. Her teaching is fluid, direct, and very light-hearted. Nicole gives much gratitude to her teachers that helped deepen her knowledge of the practice and teaching of yoga. In addition to her yoga life, she is also pursuing dance choreography and performance, Nicole Roerick Collective, and has her MFA and BFA in Dance.
